Senior Software Engineer, APIs

As a Software Engineer on our API and Developer Platform team in Vancouver, you will help make our developer platform come to life for AI, owning the gateways that enable data flow into and out of Asana. You’ll use your engineering experience to design intuitive and secure interfaces, partner with other product teams to enable new API features, and improve the holistic experience for external developers and AI agents. This role is based in our Vancouver office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. What you’ll achieve
- Shape and own the guidelines for what constitutes excellent API design, partnering with internal engineering teams to enable them to implement best practices in a self-service manner.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Design, Data Science, and User Research to gain a deep understanding of developer needs and translate them into elegant, scalable platform solutions.
- Contribute across the full stack using Scala and Typescript to continuously improve the experience for external developers and AI agents.
- Drive code quality and maintainability by developing clean, beautiful code and proactively leaving systems better than they were found.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to influence the roadmap for our Model Context Protocol (MCP) server.
About you
- 6+ years of experience working within large, complex codebases.
- 1 or more years of experience building public-facing API products or developer platforms.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for partnering effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to learn quickly and comfortably transition between different areas of a large codebase.
- A strong appreciation for productivity and a deep care for helping teams—including your own—collaborate more effectively and efficiently.

- Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.

We believe that compensation should be reflective of the value you create relative to the market value of your role. To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit.
For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $176,000 - $200,000 CAD. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.
In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity, sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits.
