Software Engineer, Developer Efficiency
New York CityApply nowWe're looking for engineers passionate about creating seamless workflows for Asana developers, ensuring fast, intuitive, and reliable tools for every step in the development cycle. You love reflecting on how you can work more efficiently, have empathy for your fellow engineers, and are motivated by knowing your work has a huge impact on engineering output.
You’ll help us architect a set of complex and interrelated systems: builds and bundling, incremental compilation, git workflow, IDE integrations, environment setup, onboarding, tooling enablement, AI-assisted development workflows, and more–—while closely partnering on continuous integration, testing, sandbox environments, and release processes.
You’ll be part of the Developer Efficiency team, partnering closely with all Product Engineering teams at Asana to understand pain points around workflows and helping make them faster and more reliable. Our work increasingly includes building and integrating AI-assisted development tools—like intelligent assistants, IDE integrations, and automated code generation leveraging large language models (LLMs)—to help engineers move faster with more confidence. We’re looking for outstanding people anywhere to help us innovate and scale, and we offer relocation.
This role is based in our New York City office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements.
What you’ll achieve:
- Build and evolve AI-augmented workflows that boost developer productivity and streamline common tasks
- Scale our build systems, proactively addressing scalability issues and partnering on enhancements in continuous integration and testing infrastructure
- Optimize developer workflows to significantly reduce iteration time, improving the overall developer experience
- Enhance onboarding experiences and tooling to accelerate developer productivity
- Stay ahead of open source trends, proactively identifying new tools and opportunities to boost developer efficiency
About you:
- 4+ years of software-engineering experience, including work improving developer workflows, build systems, or CI/CD automation.
- Experience using Python or similar languages for tooling or backend automation.
- Excited to help define the future of AI-assisted development, including work with large language models (LLMs) and developer tools like code assistants or automated code generation.
- Familiarity with build systems, local developer environments, and developer tools.
- Demonstrated curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable partnering closely with other teams.
- Sound judgment in eliminating risks and building reliable, maintainable, and performant systems.
- Passionate about creating a superlative user experience (for our engineers!); attentive to details.
- Appreciate productivity and care deeply about helping teams collaborate more effectively and efficiently, including your own
- Excited to be a part of an inclusive culture where everyone brings their whole selves to work
