Staff Software Engineer, AI Studio

It enables teams to automate routine work, surface insights, and coordinate execution with AI embedded in their workflows. We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help lead the next generation of AI Studio. In this role, you’ll operate at the intersection of AI, workflow automation, and enterprise software, shaping both the product experience customers see and the systems that power it behind the scenes. You will drive technical direction and execution on high-impact, ambiguous initiatives while raising the effectiveness of the broader team through technical judgment and mentorship.
This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. What you’ll achieve

Set technical direction for major investments in AI Studio, especially where customer experience, platform capabilities, and long-term architecture intersect.

Lead complex, multi-engineer initiatives from problem framing through delivery, creating clarity in ambiguous spaces and driving strong execution.

Make hands-on contributions to critical parts of the product and platform, especially where deep technical judgment is needed to unlock progress.

Partner closely with Product Management, Design, Data Science, and Engineering Management to shape roadmap, technical strategy, and tradeoffs. Influence technical decisions beyond the immediate team by collaborating with peer leads across adjacent product and platform areas.

Mentor engineers and model excellent practices in technical design, project leadership, and product-minded engineering.

Help evolve the team's engineering culture, raising the bar on quality, velocity, and pragmatic execution.
About you

Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.

7+ years of software engineering experience in production environments and large codebases.

Experience leading complex projects end-to-end or serving in a technical lead role for a high-impact product area.

Strong technical design skills, with a track record of making systems and teams more scalable, maintainable, and effective over time.

Excellent collaboration and delegation skills, with the ability to create alignment across engineers and cross-functional stakeholders.

Experience navigating ambiguity and shaping strategy in spaces where product, architecture, and execution are tightly coupled.

Passion for mentoring engineers and amplifying impact through others.

Motivated by building software that helps organizations coordinate work more effectively at scale.

To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit.
For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $248,000 - $307,500. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.
