We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team building the next generation of AI Studio. In this role, you’ll work on customer-facing product experiences and the systems behind them, helping make AI-powered workflows more intuitive, capable, and reliable for organizations operating at scale. You will work across the stack, partner closely with Product, Design, Data Science, and Engineering, and take ownership of technical initiatives from concept through launch. This role is a strong fit for you if you enjoy ambiguous product problems, care deeply about user experience, and want to shape how AI shows up in everyday work.
This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. What you’ll achieve

Design, build, and ship features that make it easier for customers to create and manage AI-powered workflows in Asana

Own technical design and execution for crucial projects, balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.

Work across product and platform layers to deliver reliable, scalable systems behind customer-facing AI experiences.

Collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, Data Science, and adjacent engineering teams to turn ambiguous ideas into polished product outcomes.

Make consistent hands-on contributions across the stack, tackling challenging technical problems and improving the quality and velocity of the codebase.

Mentor other engineers through pairing, code reviews, and thoughtful technical collaboration.
About you

5+ years of software engineering experience in production environments and large codebases.

Track record of leading complex projects or owning significant technical areas end-to-end.

Strong product engineering instincts and sound judgment when balancing iteration speed, code quality, and long-term maintainability.

Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Product Management and Design partners to define requirements, make tradeoffs, and shape solutions.

Comfortable working in ambiguous spaces where product, user experience, and technical architecture evolve together.

Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.

Motivated by building software that helps teams work more effectively, with a high bar for craft, collaboration, and impact.

We believe that compensation should be reflective of the value you create relative to the market value of your role. To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit.
For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $202,000 - $251,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.
