Asana’s Warsaw office is home to some of our most ambitious engineering and data initiatives. We sat down with Marcin Kuc, Data Engineering Manager, to hear how he’s shaping Asana’s data platform, supporting customers through smarter insights, and building team culture from the ground up.
1. Describe your role and what you do at Asana
I'm a Data Engineering Manager, leading a talented team within the Enterprise Data & Intelligence department. Our team is responsible for delivering data products that drive numerous internal functions at Asana, including Marketing, Finance, Customer Experience, and R&D.
I'm also responsible for shaping employee engagement across the entire Enterprise Technology organization here in Warsaw, so I build rituals and culture that keep us connected to each other and to our coworkers worldwide.
2. Why did you join Asana Warsaw?
I joined Asana Warsaw for a combination of compelling reasons. I was excited by the opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing office and help build something from the ground up. I also wanted to join a company whose product is loved by its users, which speaks volumes about its quality and impact. Above all, I was drawn to Asana's powerful mission to help humanity thrive by enabling the world's teams to work together effortlessly.
3. What is the most impactful / exciting / meaningful project you've worked on at Asana so far? Share details on how you contributed and why this is meaningful to you.
The most impactful project I’ve worked on so far is our migration to a new data platform. It is a massive undertaking, and in my first few months, I was able to create the architectural blueprint and a long-term strategy that set the foundation for the future shape of our data ecosystem.
This project was meaningful because it allowed us to dramatically improve our platform's reliability and efficiency. My contribution included establishing a safe development and testing environment and developing a robust permission model. This work laid the groundwork for a more reliable, efficient, and scalable data platform that will support Asana's growth for years to come.
4. At Asana, it's the year of the customer. How does your work support our customers to do their best work?
My team's mission is to use our vast datasets to improve the customer experience from their very first interaction with Asana. A great example of this is a project we recently completed here in Warsaw: we built a new pipeline to enrich data about our prospective customers, also known as leads.
With this more precise information, our account teams can approach potential customers with a more tailored offering and reach them from the right location. This ultimately helps our customers get started with Asana in a way that feels personal and relevant to their needs, enabling them to do their best work faster.
5. How does Asana support your career goals?
If you believe in lifelong learning, you'll fit right in at Asana. As a global tech company, our product is used by everyone from the most innovative startups to the world’s most recognizable brands. This, combined with our use of best-in-class tools and our recognition as market leaders in AI, creates endless opportunities for professional growth and skill development.
For me personally, the challenge is bigger than ever. I'm building a critical engineering team here in Warsaw - far away from headquarters - and integrating it into our wider global organization. At the same time, I joined at the very beginning of an ambitious project to migrate all of our data assets to a new platform. This combination of responsibilities constantly pushes me to grow as both a leader and a strategist.
6. What are you most excited / curious about when it comes to AI and the changes to work and lifestyle?
I’m genuinely excited about all the AI features we're rolling out on the Asana platform. My view is that AI's primary goal should be to handle as many repetitive and operational tasks as possible, so that we have more time for truly creative and meaningful work. That's exactly what we're delivering to our customers.
Imagine having a status report written for you or having project requirements groomed from a stakeholder’s notes with AI asking for any missing information. These are some of the basic things our users can now automate. I honestly can’t wait to see more of these functionalities go live and free up people to focus on what matters most.
