  • Own the technical strategy and architecture for Asana's permissions model across all objects, role systems, and sharing mechanisms, creating scalable solutions that serve both individual users and large enterprise organizations with complex access requirements
  • Partner closely with Security, Compliance, and Legal teams to ensure our permissions architecture meets enterprise security standards, regulatory requirements, and audit needs while maintaining the performance and user experience our customers expect
  • Build platform capabilities that enable other engineering teams to implement consistent, secure access patterns through well-designed APIs and clear integration patterns
  • Grow engineering leaders by hiring and mentoring senior engineers and engineering managers who will drive technical decisions across distributed systems and security architecture
  • Represent Asana's technical capabilities to strategic enterprise customers and partners, building relationships that inform our permissions roadmap and demonstrate our commitment to enterprise-grade security and compliance

About you:

  • You have 8+ years of engineering experience with 4+ years leading teams in platform engineering, security infrastructure, or access control systems, with a track record of hiring diverse talent and creating inclusive environments where everyone can contribute their best work
  • You understand permissions systems deeply including role-based access control, multi-tenancy, distributed systems design, and compliance frameworks like SOC2 and GDPR, with hands-on experience scaling authorization systems to handle millions of checks per second
  • You connect technical work to user and business outcomes, understanding how permission system design affects both collaboration workflows and enterprise security posture, with experience in both product-led-growth and enterprise sales environments
  • You communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineering teams and business stakeholders, facilitating decisions around foundational architecture that impacts the entire product while fostering a culture of technical excellence
  • Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.
