Update: We had the best intentions with this change, but we’ve gotten a lot of feedback and it’s clear that the new sidebar doesn’t accommodate everyone’s needs. So we built a way for you to switch back to the previous design if you want to. To switch back, click the link at the bottom of the sidebar.

In April we told you about some changes we’d be making to Asana’s look and feel, starting with our new top bar navigation. This week, we’re starting to roll out navigation improvements which we think will help make Asana even easier and more intuitive to use.

As we’ve added features to Asana over time, the sidebar navigation has become increasingly crowded with different Views, Teams, projects, and Favorites. So we’ve made some updates to the sidebar in an effort to simplify how you access your work.

What’s different?

The new sidebar is designed to make it easier for you to get to the information you care about most.

My Views

  • You can still access My Tasks, My Inbox, and My Dashboard from the top of the sidebar, now under “My Views”.

  • To access saved Search Views, click “See More” in My Views.

Projects

  • Projects are now organized based on a combination of factors including how frequently you visit the project and how recently you created it.

  • You can still browse projects by Team on the new Team Pages (see below).

  • If you’ve starred any projects as Favorites, they’ll still appear at the top of your list.

New Team section in sidebar

  • Your Teams have now been consolidated under their own section.

  • Here you’ll see the Teams you’ve starred as Favorites, followed by those you’re most active in.

  • Click “See more” to show other Teams you belong to. If you don’t belong to many Teams yet, you’ll also see a list of suggested Teams to join.

  • You can still join or request access to a Team by clicking the link that appears below the team name.

Team Pages

  • Click on any Team in the new sidebar to visit its Team Page.

  • The Team Page includes your Team’s conversations, projects, calendar, and settings.

Open and close the sidebar

  • The sidebar now automatically collapses when you navigate away from it.

  • Click on the menu button in the upper left-hand corner to re-open the sidebar when you need it.

  • If you prefer to have the sidebar open all the time, open it and click on the pin icon at the top.

We hope these changes will make the sidebar more effective in helping you access the content you care about most. As we roll these changes out, we’d love to know what you think. Comment here or contact support to give us feedback.
