Senior Software Engineer, Desktop

San FranciscoApply now

The Desktop team is making Asana core to our users’ work with a smart, omnipresent experience that helps them and their teammates find flow and perform their best. Our brand new desktop app brings Asana to our users' fingertips and will be the first interaction with Asana for many future users. Our Desktop app is built on top of Electron, which allows us to leverage the same web technologies that we use to build our web app in building our cross platform Desktop app.

Over time, we want our Desktop app to build awareness of a user’s work mode by integrating with the user’s calendar, other installed applications and leverage the capabilities of the operating system to keep distractions at bay and increase productivity. We’re looking for an experienced software engineer to help bring these exciting ideas to life. This is a new team working on a new platform for Asana, tackling technical challenges that are brand new for our organization.

What you will achieve:

  • You will make significant technical contributions to the Desktop program with a focus on overcoming tricky technical challenges and modeling practices that improve quality and velocity at scale and help build the foundations of a reliable and maintainable Desktop platform.
  • You will lead the design and implementation work in one or more workstreams, with support and guidance of your Program Lead.
  • You will collaborate with many other teams across Asana with an opportunity to work across the full stack to build new high impact features in the Desktop program roadmap.
  • You will mentor engineers on the team through activities like pairing and code reviews to promote a culture of technical excellence

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 4+ years of experience as a full stack engineer, working in large, well maintained code bases using Typescript/Javascript (or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with a modern frontend framework like React or AngularJS
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with other teams
  • Sound judgment when balancing moving quickly with producing quality code and long-term code maintainability
  • Passionate about creating a superlative user experience and attentive to details
  • Excited to be a part of an inclusive culture where everyone brings their whole selves to work
